I came across varying options of setting up a phantom extension, for example, using PKM, spare ONS port, *nnnn etc. On a 3300 Cx R4.0, do you have to create a fake DN number in the Users and Devices Config form to give it a Name and select "No Device" in order to add it to the TelDir or it is just a matter using the key appearances with the fake DN. Grateful if someone can help with the initial steps of creating a phantom extension before assigning it to any rerouting

Many things can be used for Phantoms and they each have their advantages and disadvantages

If you want to integrate with VM and turn on lamps for example you would probably want a key appearance

Voicemail but dont care about lamps? might use a hunt group

Quantity high, back to key appearances

What's the end game? how would it be used matters.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

for all of them name in telephone directory isnt mandatory but helps identify them and also prevents them being deleted by mistake

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Thanks but in either case do you have to program it as type "No Device" and give it all other characteristics including COS in the User Configuration. Could it also accept wild characters like *nnnn as a DN

Depends upon what you are using it for

if you have an advertised number 3000 and its calls will end up in voicemail and you want MW on that vmail and the mailbox number to be 3000 then it needs to be a single line (button on another device )or a device of its own

it may need to be in a specific tenant for night switching , if so it has to be a device ( can set to trusted so as not to use a license) set cos appropriate to what it needs

there really isnt a one answer fits all situations

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....
