Anyone using PGP to encrypt EDI transfers via ftp. We are looking into switching VAN's from Sterling Commerce Dial Up to ICC Net via ftp. Any information from anyone actually doing this would be appreciated.
My company switched from Sterling to ICC five months ago. They were great at helping me with the switch over. I use Gentran Director version 5.1 that doesn't do any ftp as a communication protocol but was able to set up an automatic session using an ftp script to log in and get/put data in my ICC mailbox. Again, ICC.net people are very knowledgable and can get you going. They will contact all your trading partners for you about the switch. I was and still am very impressed with ICC.net
Thank you for the reply. Can you tell me what PGP software you are using? I wanted to use the GNU version but I don't think ICC supports that. Do you know the cost and where you purchased your PGP software? All we need is command Line scripting capabilities also.
This may be silly but what does PGP and GNU stand for?
We use ICC.net as our VAN, a batch file that reads my script which connects to ICC.net via ftp and transfers the EDI data then Gentran Director takes over and runs the auto process that I have set up in it.
Other than that I would need to know what your acronyms are before I can answer more.
Hello all,
can anybody give me tips on switching vans. currently using sterling commerce switching to GEIS via ftp. i just got WSFTP today and haven't mess with it yet. anyway, has anybody encountered translation problems of an ftp transmitted edi data (copy already in hard drive) to GENTRAN 5.1? I got my trading partner setup already done in Gentran. I can't see anyting wrong in the ftp file that i received (notepad view). All segments seem okey. Has anybody encountered a "terminator" problem? what types? is it easy to create an automated ftp send and receive script(using WSFTP), and in combination import/export to GENTRAN of the transmitted files? Am i asking too much? appreciate any tips.
Hello all -
I use Sterling as my VAN and have a frame relay connection to them. I use Kermit for my FTP processing. I have a script that does the connecting to Sterling and executes the get to pull down my data...as well as a scripts that connects to Sterling that puts the data up on the VAN. Kermit allows for error detection that you can trap for and then program around. I have had no problems with any of my ftp connections to Sterling.
Sterling use Tildes as the segment terminator and GEIS do not. GEIS only use a Line feed. (lf) You will need to run the Gentran utility Xprocess over the data coming in to put tildes on the end of each segment of edi.
Sted,
Thanks for the tip. I actually had to do that manually (in notepad) for one document to see if it works, AND it DID!
Does anybody know how to create an 855 PO ACK in Gentran? I thought its the same procedure as most of the translation setups like a 997. I cant get an 855 created after i processed an 850. Does the 855 function the same as a 997 FA? Any special setup/translation for this?
I am currently in the process of setting up an 855. An 855 does not work like a 997 in which the system automatically generates it based on an inbound transaction. You will have to set up a map and do an application to standard translation.
Soupkid,
thanks! i have all the maps and already setup, but still not creating it. anyway, you're tip helped a lot-ill try to figure out why its not creating it still. if u have an idea, that'll be cool.
zedsded -
are you getting any specific messages with translating? have you looked through the trans.ord and your xlcntl.err file? What are they telling you? not to ask a stupid question...but it has happened to me...is your trading partner profile pointing to the correct map? if you like, feel free to foward any information you like for me to look at and i will do my best to help.
I think the content of this thread is getting too far away from my original question. Could you please start a new thread for any responses not related to EDI and PGP.
soup,
I really appreciate this.
No, i don't get any error. My map is correct, i can create a 997 for the same partner i need to have an 855. but no 855 is created. all files come in OK. I wonder, why don't I have an 855 choice in the acknowledgement pull-down menu in Gentran TP setup. I only have 997 and 999 as choice for ack. Thanks, i may have to send you sample files.
The 855 is not generated like a 997 or a 999. There is no pull down option on the trading partner definition to automatically generate an 855. Think of an 855 just like an 880 or 810 invoice transaction. You need an application to standard map defined within your trading partner. In my work we take an 850 (Purchase Order) translate it and feed it into an order management system. The system then generates an additional output file that is feed into Gentran for translation into an 855 outbound.
