Pervasive access to Btrieve 6.0 files

I have installed Pervasive 2000 client software on a workstation and I am trying to use this to open and inspect Btrieve (v6.0) files on a Novell file server.

I have several questions that should be pretty simple for someone who is familiar with Pervasive, Btrieve and Novell.

1) How would you approach this challenge (in simple, brief narrative)?
2) How can I tell whether I have installed the workgroup or the server engine on this Windows XP Pro workstation?
3) What might cause me to be able to use the Pervasive client to create a database on the server, yet prevent me from enumerating tables in that same database? When I click the plus beside my database in PCC, I get this error:
"[Pervasive][Pervasive ODBC Client Interface][Pervasive ODBC Client Interface][Pervasive ODBC Client Interface LNA]The ODBC Client Interface cannot access the data source because the server could not be located on the network. Contact your system administrator for assistance."

Please help!

1) Do you have the file/field layouts? I'd use ODBC access to a DDF via a DSN. There are a number of ways to create a DDF - check out some of the other threads for this. You could also use btsearch (again check the threads for references to this) - btsearch allows direct access to the data without the need of a ddf.

2) If you've installed the server engine it will show up in the services list in the control panel.

3) Is it possible that the pervasive service isn't running on the server that you're trying to access. Can you ping the server? Are you using a dsn to connect to that server - maybe the configuration of the dsn needs review...

Tom,

Thanks for your response. At Gil Nelson's suggestion, I resolved this by using the Workgroup version of Pervasive loaded on my laptop, rather than the server version. That took my Novell issues out of the mix. I have used BtSearch32 to get a pretty good look at the data. I appreciate your assistance, Tom.
