At our church the staff have all been ‘profiled’ (using Myers Briggs Personality Profiling) which has lead to an interesting side-effect – the introduction of type descriptions when talking about/to one-another.

For example:
“I’m an ESFP”, or “most of the male staff members are P’s and their wives J’s”. Those in the know (like me – although I’m not on staff) nod sagely, but this must sound very strange to an ‘outsider’! Has anyone else come across this phenomenon, or are we just weird?

(Incidentally, I find the whole subject of personality profiling fascinating – for the record I am an INFP, according to Myers Briggs.)

Very True - I tend to play the role of 'peacemaker' in discussions, trying to find common ground and consensus

Very True - I tend to put other people's needs before my own

True - I am collaborative in decision-making

False - I am easily swayed by an emotional argument

Although I am not easily swayed by an emotional argument, I do find it quite difficult to tell someone what I *really* think about some hairbrain idea that they obviously feel quite strongly about. I guess I'm afraid that my "rude monster" will pop out. I've said some very un-nice things when upset and/or tipsy. Also my rude monster comes out more in written correspndence than face-to-face.

I really enjoy discussions/arguments where both sides are, to some extent, playing devil's advocate because it allows a certain degree of carefree ruthlessness. It can be refreshing to put it all out there without walking on eggshells.

I am also quite oblivious to my physical condition... to my animal body-self. I was 30 years old before I realized that being hungry or tired makes me cranky. I have no idea what causes my allergies, and other than alcohol, am unable to draw any correlation between the substances I ingest and my general well being. I've always been slender no matter what I eat so I guess I feel a bit detached from my mortal coil. It is hard to relate to "health conscious" folks but I've realized it is not fair to write it all off as hippy-dippy stuff.

Hows that for TOO MUCH INFORMATION!
