Personal Oracle8i NET8 ODBC problems

I have a working copy of Personal Oracle 8i on my home
PC
. I have entered little databases and sqlplus runs fine.

I want to hook it to ODBC for connectivy to a package while I wait for the UNIX server at work. As
I understand it, I have to get NET8 working first.

I am trying to use the "this computer" type network
address. ( Sorry, I forgot the term IPC ?)

Right now, when I run the test program the database starts
but the test login/query fails evey time. I have spent
some fruitless time with the help files.

Can someone point me to a place that would help me get this
straight, or help? It may be possible that I have both started an name server and am trying to run without it.(?!)

Thanks,

Jim

Did you try to change the login and password. I just recently started using Oracle 8.1.6 here at work and when I set up the connections, it defaults to Scott/Tiger.

Ever notice that by the time that you realize that you ran a truncate script on the wrong instance, it is too late to stop it?

Thanks, I had tried different valid log ins. No
Luck.

what is the error message u get??

I got this done !

I just ripped everything out and re-entered and it
worked out through connecting an ODBC application.

One note: there is a difference in the connectivity
with 8 versus 8i
. To get some of the older diagnostic
methods to work -- tnsping (right name?) for example
and the ODBC connectivity checker, I had to configure a
connection as the older, straight Oracle 8 type connection.

I'll put details up later, in case somone else is having
trouble.

Thanks for the help,

JimD
