Hi there,

anybody got a logic head on them?

If I set a permission on a shared folder to read, and deny write access to a group, will they be able to copy, or view the file for their use? Basically I don't want them to delete or change the files, but I want them to have access to the graphics within for their work.

I think you're right...I think they will be able to copy it to their machine and/or view it from the shared directory.

I believe when you are dealing with folder permissions that if you set the permissions to read only on the folder than any file in the folder will have ONLY read attributes. That means that the user can only read the file, they cannot copy or save the file or its contents. Now I have never trie to copy and past with permissions set so who knows.

if you set the the permission to read only they will only be able to view and they cannot change anything while that folder is in your drive. They can copy the file to there drive and then change whatever they want. I just did it on my 2k machine.

Thanks guys,

Is it possible to allow people to read, and write to a file, but not to allow them to delete from it. Can I set up an audit policy to see who tries to delete files from it, and how?

I don't think its possible to read and write but not delete.
I could be wrong so you might want to get a second opinion on that one. I also have no idea about the audit policy either.....sorry man!
