I have set up NAV2001 on a PC with Windows 2000 where the user is a "Restricted User" and have had problems with the auto update. What is the best way to set up the user to have full access rights for Norton? I have setup both the NAVNT and SYMANTEC folders so that the user has full control, but this still isn't working. It won't work unless I set the user to "Standard User".

Is there a reason you do not want the user as standard? You can them up as a Standard User then resrtic the folders they have access to (If you use NTFS) Please let us (Tek-tips members) know if the solutions we provide are helpful to you. Not only do they help you but they may help others.

We wanted to restrict most users to prevent downloading and installing of programs. We have problems with people putting games, audio software, etc. on their computer and cluttering it up.

I believe (not sure) you can set users up as Standard and restric installing. I am not sure how. I dont think you can set it up to restric everything else and allow Norton to update. Have you tried a network version of Norton that allows client PCs to run its Anti-Virus program. That way any definition updates can be made on the server then pushed (via policies) to each PC.
