permission to su to root

Im trying to set it up so I can log in with my personal login then su to root. No matter what I set up it tells me I don't have permission to su to root. What am I missing. This is tru64
 
hi,
you have to be a member of the group 'system' in order to be allowed to su to root.

In your /etc/group file, add your name in system line. For example:

system:*:0:root,your_login_name
