Hi,

Has anyone gotten any permission errors on 7.0 while trying to backup an exchange backup? I just recently upgraded my facility from 6.1 to 7.0 with SP4a. I have to exchange servers. When the servers were on 6.1 I used 1 domain admin account and was able to backup perfectly. Now that its upgraded one server works and not the other. I've been talking with CommVault and I can't seem to get them to understand whats going on. They keep trying to make change my account name saying that only 1 login name per environment. Is anyone using more than account name to backup?

To try and resolve this issue I have checked the profman profile and that looks good. The permission on my account looks the same as the other server. I have reentered my login name and password on the client computer throught the properties. I just dont know were else to go.

Can anyone help????

Thanks
USAF

I would check a couple of items, all dealing with the exchange server you are having problems with.

1.) go into commvault and on the problem child server expand to locate the database job, on the right hand side right click on default (or whatever you have called it) and go to properties, click on the contents tab and click configure in the lower right, if nothing populates then it is either a communcations issue or a account issue. If the DB's do populate then the account and communications should be fine.
2.) make sure the problem child is also upgraded to version 7, I have seen issues where the exchange jobs have issues when they are on 6 and the comcell is on 7
3.) Uninstall commvault off the problem child and reinstall and patch it, commvault does not like to admit it but this can solve and lot of problems.
4.) Re-post and include the error message that you are recieving on the problem child, this can help the users here see what is going on exactly.

The problem child is an exchange mailbox. In step 1 you stated DB does that matter? Can I follow step 1 on the MB?

yes you can still follow step 1 on the MB, the point here is to make sure that from Commvault you can see either the DB or the MB, thus eliminating account and permissions settings as long as you can see the DB's or the MB's, also what error message is the mailbox job having?

You see the weird thing is DB backup works but not the MB. The error message I was getting was " Can ot verfied creditials for .\login name. Please check password or permissions." Some along that line. I cant get you the exact words because now it tells me to check the logs for the error.

I tried doing the above steps on the MB, but the MB as no contents tab. But the server is at 7.0 and SP4a.

I am about to uninstall/reinstall the server again.

.\login name would be a local account and not a domain account which is what you would need for mailbox backups/restores. You probably just need to change the login for that client.

See I have this same login on 13 different bases with some having multiple exchange servers and they work. Half of these bases are running 7.0 and has not had any problems. I have talked to my AD Team and they said that our Domain Acct inherates the local admin permissions.

Have you checked the security event log on the problem server, for successes/failures for this account you are using. There may be some clues in there?
