We upgraded a cluster server from W2K adv server to W2K3 ent. and now we are having trouble setting permission to user and groups. We made a test folder and try to set permission to the admin group and would not allow us to set any permission with the exception of the default everyone group and the popup error message is as listed.

"cluster Administrator Standard Extension" and the error message " Access to a cluster file share can be granted/denied only to domain users and groups. Please remove any local users or groups from the permission dialog box."

Can anyone help me solved this problem. Any help is highly appreciated.

it sounds like you are trying to add local groups and in a cluster environment this will not work. If you add a local group from Server A, if the disk fails over to Server B it will not have access to Server As local group. Now if you add your domain\domain admins group to the share bother servers will have access to it.

Basically you cannot add local groups because they are just that, local to one server not the cluster.
