Permanently removing board from slot 3 in Legend?

I am converting from Legend rel 7 to MAGIX rel 3. My current Legend has an 008 ATL in slot 3; FOLLOWED by an 012 Analog port card in slot 4 and an 016 ETR in slot 5.

Before I do the magix upgrade, I need to permanently remove the 008 ATL in slot 4 (I only have two phones on this card). Does anyone know about the procedure to remove the card from slot 3, without losing any of the config on the cards in slots 4 and 5? I plan to power the system off, then remove the ATL from slot 3, then move the 012 from slot 4 to 3, then move the ETR from slot 5 to 4. Then, power on and do a board renumber. Will this procedure keep all of the port settings, numbers and configurations? Of course I will do a backup prior to starting any of this.

After this works, I will do another backup and, using WinSPM, convert the backup to Magix and convert my processor with the red card. Your reply is greatly appreciated.

The answer to:

Will this procedure keep all of the port settings, numbers and configurations?

is NO.

The translations and Exten numbers assigned for the extensions moved to the left will be all fowled up.

Also, Coverage assignments, and other things will get messed up as well.

My advice is to not only do a Backup, but to do a PRINT ALL.

That way, you can go back and MANUALLY re-program all the features and coverage and other assignments to these extensions with the changed extension numbers.

You can, if you like renumber them to their old extension number.

I really had the feeling that the reply was going to be like you said. I did a FULL system print last night and did a backup. So, I guess I'll just block out a chunk of my time to do the re-programming. That's a fairly big deal for me, but worth it to move to magix 3.0 (I'm wanting to have both lines of the caller ID information on the MXL phone displayed at the same time - VS. - having to have a "Caller ID Name" button on each set). Ok, I'll be mentally prepared for a lot of work and several hours of programming.

Merlinman: Thanks so much for your quick feedback. One other thing: After doing the processor upgrade from Legend V7 to Magix V3; am I REQUIRED to do firmware upgrades to the boards in my system (specifically, the 412 GS/LS-MLX ID cards - so that the two line caller ID function will work?). Just wondering, as I have the processor update and firmware updates for the cards available to me. Your reply is appreciated.

I don't think so, I did not do that with my old ones and they worked ok with that feature.

Just replace the ATL module with an equivalent MLX module - and leave all of the programming in place.

You do still have to do a board renumber - but no re-programming if you put an MLX 008 mosule in the ATL slot - saves a lot of rework. You can buy one on eBay for $5.

No! The adjuncts of the MLX board cause it to be seen as twice the number of stations in software as it physically has. So the programming of the 1st ATL will be taken on by the 1st MLX, but the programming of the 2nd ATL will go to the 1st Adjunct. 3rd ATL goes to the 2nd MLX, 4th ATL goes to the 2nd Adjunct, etc.

Then guess what? The 1st station of the card in the 4th slot goes onto the 5th MLX, the the 2nd station of that 4th slot goes onto the 5th Adjunct, and every station down the line gets messes up.

What a total nightmare!!

It's going to be so much easier to reprogram from scratch that to try and repair the damage done through swapping unequal types of cards.

Actually, with just a few ports, I think I'd just go ahead and do it the way I suggested.

I'd take the ATL Mod out and move everything over to the Left.

Then I'd do a Board Renumber.

Then Renumber the extensions back to their OLD extension number, and only SCRATCH PROGRAM the ones affected. Again, using the print all.

If I'm correct in understanding the "BEFORE" design, it shouldn't be too difficult.

OF COURSE, double check where coverage and things are for each extension both before & after.

I wouldn't do a complete PROGRAM FROM SCRATCH, unless you have more than a couple of modules affected. (To the Right of your ATL, that is.)

Thank you to everyone for your replies! I really apprecaite it. I guess that I'm in for an evening of programming to make things really right, PRIOR to my MAGIX upgrade. I'm hoping that after I remove the ATL board, do all of the programming changes, I'll be able to easily convert a saved copy of this new configuration to Magix using WinSPM, do the MAGIX upgrade on the processor, then restore the converted copy of the config to the newly upgraded MAGIX processor!

It'll take me a couple of weeks to get the time (and nerve) up to make these changes. I'll let you know how it goes! Best wishes from Jukeman1 and thanks again to all!

FOLLOW UP: Thank you again for your assistance. I chose to remove the ATL card from slot 3, then moved the ETR card from slot 5 to slot 3 (leaving slot 5 empty and leaving my 016 T/R in its original slot 4). I then powered on and did a board renumber. LIKE MAGIC, all of the programming remained and was remapped from the 016 T/R board. Only the 4 transtalk sets plugged into the ETR board needed to be reprogrammed. All of my analog lines for faxes, single line phones, AND my 4 ports that feed the external Merlin Mail system, RETAINED their programming - the system even reassigned all programming and restrictions on the new port numbers. The system also reassigned all of the 1-touch dial buttons on all of the MLX sets in slots 1 & 2. SO, overall the removal of the ATL board, in preparation for an upcoming MAGIX upgrade went well. I have taken a backup to the memory card and a backup to WinSPM. Again, thanks to all for the information.
