Error report states that there is a Permanent SSA Disk Array Error on ssa1. After defining RAID Arrays (via smitty), it shows that hdisk2 is degraded. Please can someone tell me what action I should take in order to move the disk from 'degraded' status back to 'good'?

what does errpt for this disk say?

It looks like you have a disk that has failed and needs to be replaced.

In the meantime, do you have a disk that is available for use that is in the same loop as the hdisk that is in degraded state? If so, go into smit/devices/ssa raid arrays/ change member disks in an ssa RAID array/swap member of an ssa RAID array.

The screen that comes up is fairly self explanatory.

You can do all of this while the disk is on line. Once you swap the good disk for the bad disk, the array will resync.

If you don't have a free disk in the same loop, but you do have one in another loop, you can do some moving around of the disks, but that has a few additional steps.

The errpt says:
SSA_DISK_ARRAY error
Type: Permanent Class: Hardware Machine ID / Node ID
Resource Name: ssa1 Resource Class: Adapter Location: 00-12

This error has appeared daily for quite a while now - I only picked this up when I was checking why a overnight backup failed.

When I do a errpt|pg it shows both ssa0 and ssa1 as having Permanent Hardware problems - RESOURCE UNAVAILABLE.

I am currently Certifying the physical disks (related to hdisk2)...so far so good. Not convinced this will work and reckon you will probably be right and the disk will need to be replaced.

After you get through this crisis, you might want to go to this FAQ (faq52-2445) and set up being notified that a new error has been logged to errpt.

Sometimes there are bogus errors that are logged to ssa disks. Let's hope this is one of them.

This one is a bit strange....the Certification came back with no errors. But after looking at the error report it appears as though pdisk0 is knacked. Think I'll place a Hardware call, thanks very much for your help. Will set up the error notification as well as it looks pretty useful. Thanks again

You might need a microcode upgrade.

I think you have HOT SPARE=yes.

Old problem, I know, but I think I had this a while ago. Chek in SMIT if you are still having this problem.
