Permanent 301 Redirects

Hi,

Just wondering what the best strategy is for 301 Redirects. We are redesigning a huuuuge site, and some folders have multiple subfolders and files. Would it work best if I deleted all subfolders/files, and just put a redirect in the application.cfm of the main folder, or should I keep all files and folders?

Do I understand you correctly: you mean you have a lot of pages:

http://www.domain.com/folder1/file.cfm

http://www.domain.com/folder1/folder2/file2.cfm

http://www.domain.com/folder1/folder3/folder4/file98.cfm

etc...

and you are working on one folder with all its subfolder, and want to avoid the deadlinks coming from other sites or search engines ?
