I opened up and installed perl and it went fine.put in the small test hello world scrip in cgi-bin and it wont come up in localhost.here is the error log,[it sees it i guess but just wont open it.
script not found or unable to stat: C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/cgi-bin/hello.cgi
.
I have no idea on this one and i tried different paths.
Tks
Johnny
I didnt do anything with the cgi folder or program,do I have to open a cgi program also.

Sorry I didn't finish my thought. ;-) The reason I ask is because that is a system file path and not a url.

I changed some for cgi to run like it said.
here is part of the config

# DefaultLanguage and AddLanguage allows you to specify the language of
# a document. You can then use content negotiation to give a browser a
# file in a language the user can understand.
#
# Specify a default language. This means that all data
# going out without a specific language tag (see below) will
# be marked with this one. You probably do NOT want to set
# this unless you are sure it is correct for all cases.
#
# * It is generally better to not mark a page as
# * being a certain language than marking it with the wrong
# * language!
#
# DefaultLanguage nl
#
# Note 1: The suffix does not have to be the same as the language
# keyword --- those with documents in Polish (whose net-standard
# language code is pl) may wish to use "AddLanguage pl .po" to
# avoid the ambiguity with the common suffix for perl scripts.
#
# Note 2: The example entries below illustrate that in some cases
# the two character 'Language' abbreviation is not identical to
# the two character 'Country' code for its country,
# E.g. 'Danmark/dk' versus 'Danish/da'.
#
# Note 3: In the case of 'ltz' we violate the RFC by using a three char
# specifier. There is 'work in progress' to fix this and get
# the reference data for rfc1766 cleaned up.

Rhythm-Here is the scrip.
#!/usr/bin/perl
print "Content-type:text/html\n\n";
print "hello world";
I found it on the net, along with another site were it said to make some changes to apache.
Thanks
Johnny

Your shebang is not pointing to the correct path to perl.exe. Change it to see if that makes a difference. I also see a lot of problems with you httpd.conf file but we can work on those after we get cgi working.

Rhythm/ My shebang? ha ha ha no she's not banging. ha ha ha .
Ill have to look that up and fix it.Sooo here I come googles.
I did need to laugh this morring.Tks.
Johnny

It's that first line in your script that starts with #!. Yours should look more like #!C:/perl/perl.exe. Actually, it will be the path to where the perl executables were installed. I don't run apache on Windows so I'm not too sure how some things work but I remember reading somewhere that on Windows the shebang doesn't matter as long as the interpreter is in your path. To check, go to your command prompt and type "path" (without the quotes of course) and you will see something like PATH=C:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/ and so on. Hopefully you will see something that looks like C:\PERL\PERL.EXE or C:\PERL\BIN\PERL.EXE included somewhere on that line. It is also possible that your version of apache uses mod_perl but since you have installed perl, I will assume that is not the case.

Rhythm.
I did look up and found out what the shebang was and I tried a few dif. paths and they didn't work. But I didn't try it with the .exe at the end.
Ill try a few more ways and keep reading. Ill let you know.Tks again and have a nice day,or night.
Johnny.I just got back from shopping.
But I won't let this get the best of me.

Rhythm I tried all this.
############## I typed in
came up with this error message.

You have me a tad confused. Your script will stay in the cgi-bin which I assume is C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/cgi-bin/. When you installed perl, I assume perl.exe went into c:/perl or c:/perl/bin. The location of perl.exe is what you want to put in the top line of your script. If you are finding all this a bit overwhelming, there is an easier way. There are people who have done all this for you. They have put apache, mysql, php and perl in packages that have become known as WAMP. Here are a few places you might want to check out.

Once you get your site up and running, we can sow you how to setup virtual hosts so you can have more than on website on the same server.

IMPORTANT!!! If you decide to go with one of these, don't forget to uninstall apache if you have it running as a service. Simply deleting it won't do the trick.
