Perl CGI on Apache

Hi!
I installed Apache on my local machine (no network), wrote all (it seems to me) the config info for perl CGI support in the httpd.conf, but the browser still displays the sourcecode of the script instead of running it. It also doesn't resolve the /cgi-bin/ alias, whilst I obviously introduced it in httpd.conf. Can anybody give a tip on what's going on?

Make sure you restarted Apache after editing the httpd.conf. Post your httod.conf here and we may be able to find a syntax error.

I forgot to add the obvious: did you install PERL?

Also, this line:

AddHandler cgi-script cgi pl

should be:

AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl

Restart Apache and try again.

Nope, didn't work. (Anyway, Apache manual says it's OK to specify extensions without the dot)
As to Perl itself: of course I have it installed. Also, my Apache package had it's own Perl interpreter included.

The scripts work correctly when I manually set the &quot;QUERY_STRING&quot; variable in the shell.

What also surprises me is that despite the fact I defined ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/, Mozilla doesn't resolve it properly, displaying &quot;/cgi-bin not found on this server, check the name.. and so on&quot;.

This is really funny. I just set up a machine with Redhat 8.0 and PERL, and it does the same thing. It says the file is not found, when it is there, and it does run a test script. Permissions are 755.

But your problem seems to have evolved from displaying the script to displaying the Not Found error?

Haven't had time to debug my situation yet.

No, my problem remains the same. What I meant is that the ScriptAlias directive should allow one to write &quot;/cgi-bin/scriptFile.cgi&quot; instead of &quot;/dir1/dir2/../dirN/scriptFile.cgi&quot; (&quot;/etc/httpd/cgi-bin/&quot; on my machine). So, if I try to run &quot;/cgi-bin/test.pl&quot;, it says that the directory &quot;/cgi-bin&quot; doesn't exist, but when I write the full path to the script, it simply displays it's content.
