I am just curious what the best way to monitor a 2950 switch so as to make sure that it is not being over-loaded?

I ask this because we get strange 'pauses' on a remote telnet application and I want to rule out any local issues. The pauses last for approx. 3-7 seconds and the users are not disconnected from their telnet session. This happens 10+ times a day.

SNMP, sh processes cpu, sh processes memory

show interfaces

Look for the interfaces in question to see if they are getting any errors or have an incorrect speed.

show controllers utilization will show you the utilization of the ports.

If it's a remote telnet connection, you might want to check your outbound connnection for any congestion as well.

Thanks to all of you for your quick responses!

I found out that it was not my local switch after all. I ran the freeware version of PingPlotter and found that my ISP on the remote side is having the issues. They are apparently hitting their bandwidth cap. Luckily they have already been bringing in additional bandwidth (end of next week).

Thanks again for your responses.
