Performance issues Windows XP Pro vs Windows 2000 Pro

We have definate performance issues with running Crystal Reports on our client workstations using XP Pro. We are using MAS200 client/server accounting software and some of the reports are Crystal. But even if we run a local report on the client the problem still exists.

For example the same report/data run from XP Pro workstations takes 10 minutes and on Windows 2000; 1.5 minutes.

I have tried scaling way back on the XP Pro services, but nothing seems to work.

Anyone else out there see this situation?

Are the specs comparable ( RAM, processor type/speed database connectors, etc.)?

Did you find a solution? We have found a simular problem with our migration from NT to XP PRO. Our new computers are running slower for MAS200 and Crystal Reports.

No, we gave up and are using Windows 2000 for our workstations. It just seems to me there must be an answer out there. The performance difference is very dramatic.

Are your XP Pro machines updated with SP2? - if so, Crystal may not work correctly..

Which db is MAS using?

If its JET it may be a MDAC/JET service pack issue.

The database is ProvideX - It's a proprietary database. Not fast.

I was hoping it would be a popular db.

The issue is really to identify where the problem lies... with Crystal on XP or with the the db driver on XP.
If its a ODBC driver, then try mocking up a query in say MS Access in both OS environments.
If its just as slow with Access, then your problem lies with the driver, not necessarily Crystal.
