Group,

My work place currently exists on an AS400 environment. The application software that we use is JDE. The EDI software that we use is the TrustedLink AS400 edition currently marketed by Peregrine. ALL the transaction sets we use today are ANSI X12 based.

Peregrine made the following announcemnet yesterday.

"Peregrine Sys. to explore alternatives for B2B unit" The article suggests that Peregrine is about to put TrustedLink software up for grabs to the first willing taker.

I have been through the whole, Premenos, to Harbinger, to Peregrine ordeal. JDE and TrustedLink software work relatively well together, with Peregrine supplying templates for all JDE supported transaction sets.

I have looked at Mercator software and they have absolutely no relationship with IBM or JDE. Any suggestions as to what works great with both JDE and the AS400 platform.

Thank you in advance for your input.

That is a shame about trusted link 400. I worked with it and JDE at my last job, and you are right, they work well together.
In my current job we do not have JDE, but for EDI, we use Gentran by Sterling commerce. I have read that Gentran works with JDE. You may want to check into it.

We are in a similar predicament, gchimo! In addition to previously mentioned, we are also investigating Extol for a replacement.

I am working with both JDE and Sterling Commerce Gentran Server for the AS/400. They also have an add-on module specifically for JDE - with template maps for the most common transaction sets.

If I can be of any help, let me know.

I just want to thank you all for your input!

I have had an opportunity to talk with a number of people about the current state of the TrustedLink Software. We are trying to avoid any knee jerk decisions about switching software, due to the large amount of both money and time invested into our EDI process. Will another “Peregrine” or “Harbinger” pick up TrustedLInk software? The history of the product would suggest "Yes", but one can only gamble so many times. I am curious as to how other businesses in our situation will react.

My entire EDI background is associated with the TrustedLink software package, and I am curious as to what the "distinct" differences are between TrustedLink and all other EDI packages that run on the AS400 environment. Are there any tools available that would help me to convert user files, translation formats, or trading partner relationships to native translation package of our choosing?

I know my question is incredibly broad in scope, but I just know that there are several businesses going through this painfully uncomfortable process. The knowledge of this group is second to none, and I would appreciate any and all opinions offered.

My actual signon handle is "GCHMILOWSKY". I am unclear as to how I managed to post this message as GCHIMO, but I guess I should deal with one issue at a time.

To add a little more confusion to the matter, we have now as a company have decided that we are changing our OS platform to UNIX. Also, we are upgrading from World to One World. The orginal question was based on the AS400 platform and the World software package.

The modified question is now "What are some suggested alternatives to the TrustedLink software package offered by Peregrine in a UNIX environment?".

I would try to get more chapter & verse about the future of TrustedLink before making a decision. Tech Support, your sales person, this and other forums are the logical places to start.

If you decide to get another translator, I wouldn't count on much conversion support unless you want to use the vendor's consulting services. I know that that sounds expensive, but it makes sense if you have a lot of maps and can QC the process. Any change of major software involves conversion cost, it's just a matter of what's the most cost-effective way of getting the job done.

In any event, you'll want software that has an interface of some sort to JDE. For example, Gentran has an SAP interface that works well. That interface knows that essentials of the IDoc interface and is able to load IDoc files that are the output of the translator. It also has generic map templates for the main X12 document types. If the software took one step further and provided a generic 850 & 810 (856 is probably too much to hope for) it would be even better.

If it were me, I'd make darn sure that I needed to switch before going to the time and trouble. The good news is that new software gives you the opportunity to start fresh, which is usually a good thing.

Hope that this helps.

Have you made a decision yet on your EDI translator?
