Hello Chaps!

I have a Dell poweredge 1300 with a single pentium III 500 processor.

I'm wanting to upgrade the processor to a 1000 Mhz or similar.

Will any old Pentium III chip do or can i only use certain Pentium IIIs?

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hi I think you can't do that upgrade, because the PIII 500 processor works with a different chipset than the PIII 1000.
The only option is changing the board too, what I think it coulb be more expensive that buying another server.
Have a nice day :)

The maximum to upgrade is P3 - 850 Mhz, Dual Pentium
I did it succesfull from single 450 Mhz
Dell told me then that it isn't possible to change Pentium familiy from P3 to P3s!
It has to be SECC 2, Family 6, Model 8 Stepping 3

Good luck!
