I recently added a pc into a peer network and can only see some of the computers on the network from network neighborhood. I swapped cables, hub ports, verified workgroup name (all upper case). I have installed file and print sharing and shared the C drive with full access, no password. All the other PC's can see it, but it can only see itself and 1 other PC.<br><br>Computer names: DAVE, SHIPPING, STEVE, KARL<br><br>DAVE sees DAVE, SHIPPING, STEVE, KARL<br>SHIPPING sees DAVE, SHIPPING, STEVE, KARL<br>STEVE sees DAVE, SHIPPING, STEVE, KARL<br>KARL only sees KARL, STEVE<br><br>I tried removing all but KARL and SHIPPING and still nothing. Some of the pc's are also configured for dial-up networking, including KARL, I'm wondering if that could be affecting it. I also noticed that SHIPPING takes longer to find itself than all the others. I changed it's nic just to be safe. I'm using Linksys 10/100 PCI NIC's and an Intel InBusiness 8 port hub. All PC's are running Win98. All PC's are configured with NetBUEI bound to the NIC.

Try mapping network drives to the shared C drives in Explorer using Map network drives e.g. on Karl's PC map to \\DAVE\C i.e. one of those you can't &quot;see&quot;.&nbsp;&nbsp;I think you will find that it will map OK.&nbsp;&nbsp; You may even then start to see the other PC's in the browse - this has happened to me heaps - I think it is a bug :)

I will be at the customer's site on 4/3. I will give that a try. I have tried simply typing in \\SHIPPING from the run line and it could not find it, but I will try the MAP and post the results.

I think for Netbui and file sharing, you must <b>create and share</b> at least one folder or printer on each PC before the PC will show up in Network Neighborhood.&nbsp;&nbsp; It doesn't seem to be this way with TCP/IP protocol but it does seem to happen with either Netbui or IPX protocols.<br> <p>Ian Cowie<br><a href=mailto:ianco@email.com>ianco@email.com</a><br><a href= > </a><br>"If you see something THIS big, with eight legs, coming your way, let me know. I have to kill it before it develops language skills." - Londo, Babylon 5 <br>
Anyhow, how can I help you, eh?

There has to be a share for the PC or nothing will show. Just hitting the browse won't help either, you have to put in the netbeui shared path name. For a shared printer I would use \\PC3\hp4. Hope this helps.

All of the PC's that are working were setup with TCP/IP bound to the NIC. I wanted to use NetBEUI, but when I removed the TCP/IP binding from the working PC's, they could no longer see themselves. The only way I could get all of the PC's to 'see' each other is to remove NetBEUI and then bind TCP/IP to the NICs. All is now working.

Often computers do not show up in Network Neighborhood, but if you use Start/Find/Computer and search for the computer it will show up. Sometimes the computer will show up in Network Neighborhood after that. It is not necessary to have any resources shared in order for a computer to show up in the Network Neighborhood browser but the computer must have File and Print Sharing enabled in the Network Properties in order to be listed. The computers should all be a part of the same Workgroup.

I was having a similar problem on my home lan. No such problem at work, where we have an NT lan. Didn't use to have the problem at home when I used a Novell 3.12 server. When I tried to go Win9x peer couldn't see each other!!! So I watched this thread, and when Kerry said he got it to work by removing all protocols EXCEPT tcp/ip, I tried the same. Still didn't work! UNTIL I also removed a binding on a 3com card to it's diag protocol, THEN VIOLA! I can see and share. <br>Since I also was trying to use NETBeui on this LAN, I think there is some connection there. I have another home LAN I service that I set up without NETBeui, and it works fine.
