Anyone seen 2005 kick you out to the desktop after logging into the company? IMMEDIATELY after logging in?

OS is 98se, data stored on 2003 file server. 2000/XP workstations no problem.

Peachtree support says it is damaged os, but no specifics, ran spyware, virus scans, ok.

Reinstalled video driver, didn't help.

After it kicks out, there is no error message, but peachtree and the client engine are still running in the background, i have to end task to try again.

I would say this happens at least 75% of the time we try to login. This machine worked fine on 2003, and it because it does work okay some of the time, I have a hard time with a damaged os.

They also had me make the following changes to config.sys

FILES=199
BUFFERS=32,0

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

honestly dont wast time with 98. upgrade os to 2000 or xp

Honestly" I have a client that doesn't like to spend money, despite the fact that they asked for this upgrade. And since 98 is a supported os, I need to make sure this isn't a simple problem before I invest time into reloading and upgrading the OS.

This doesn't appear to be a simple solution, or Peachtree support would have a clue. I appreciate the response, but I really am looking for suggestions from someone who might have seen this issue, or is a Peachtree expert, and might have some intelligent suggestions.

Turned out to be a very simple fix. Senior peachtree support had me do 2 things differently, when we removed peachtree and reinstalled from scratch.

1. Installed to c:\peachw instead of c:\program files\peachtree (I don't think this made a difference, but info for anyone else who might read this thread)

2. Historically Peachtree had a program file path field, and a data path field. In 2005, we ran advanced setup option, then checked the box below the program file path field, THEN we now have an option to install data to a different path. It copied some forms and files to the data directory, but did not overwrite any data. The problem no longer appeared.

We believe the problem was with browsing to the company data
in 98, versus the datapath being hardcoded during the initial setup. The reality is, we could have probably set the datapath in pcw120.ini to P:\PEACHD~1 (which is our datapath, p:\peachdata), and that might have worked too.

So, tip learned, don't browse for companies in 98, set the data path by editing the ini file, or during the setup.
