I just migrated to a new system at home running Windows XP Home. I installed VB6 and SP5 and put together a small test application with no problems. I wanted to build an installation package to see if developing on Windows XP would cause any problems if the program was installed on Win98 or NT systems. I've just run the Package and Deplayment Wizard on it for the first time to build the setup package. Everything looks normal until I get to the end of the wizard and click Finish. The Package folder and the script are created, then it ends as if I shot it with a gun. No setup files or the Support folder are created. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance...

PDW is becoming a quagmire of problems. Even when you do get a full deployment package built under Windows XP, watch what happens when you try to install it under Win 97. Good luck.

I have been using the Inno compiler which does not seem to have the problems rampant within PDW. It is free, a bit harder to setup than the PDW, but it seems to work consistently. You can make a decision by checking out
Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I will check it out.

One of the questions I was trying to get the answer to was what happens when I install on a different flavor of Windows after compiling and building the installation package on XP. I just never got that far.

Have you found a solution to your PDW problem? I am having exactly the same problem.

I had a similar problem with the PDW and winXP. I had to return to a win 2000 machine to create my package.

Eventually switched to INNO setup. Encountered a small learning curve, but it was well worth it.

Thanks and Good Luck!

I'm still at a loss. I downloaded InnoSetup but have yet to figure out how it works. It doesn't seem to automatically include all the necessary files in the setup pcakage. Am I missing something or do you really have to figure out all the dependencies and manually add the files?

It is not a microsoft based wizard. Therefore it does not include the necessary files for you. Here's what I did when i first started with INNO.

Use the PDW to select the files that you need and the location in which to install them. Take that list and manually add the files to the INNO setup script.

The main learning curve involves writting a script. Once you have that it's pretty easy.

I posted an example INNO script in thread709-569250.

Thanks and Good Luck!
