I have been using Paradox10 (WordPerfect Office 2002) for some time... but in a VERY LIMITED WAY. I created a number of tables, queries, and reports. I would copy selected tables from my hard drive to the server for viewing by the staff ... and print a number of reports.

My hard drive crashed and I reloaded the WordPerfect and the Paradox programs to my C:. (I managed to make a quick copy of the paradox files on my old C: and stash them on the server before the crash).

I am unable to access Paradox on my hard drive at all... I get the "Could not initialize BDE: you have attempted to open a database that is in use by someone else, but the database cannot be shared. You must set the location for the .NET control file." error.

When I log on to the server, I can access my tables, but not my queries or reports (I get a "table does not exist" error). So I am unable to make the reports. All the queries and reports are listed though.

Is someone able to walk me through the steps to a reasonable fix? I'd hate to lose two years worth of data!

Thanks. Judi

Do a search on your local and server hard drives for *.lck and *.net files. Delete all that you find and you should be able to open Paradox again. Check out the faq on setting up Paradox for instructions on how to set the net directory.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

Wow - that was super! I could not get all the .lck files on the server deleted, but the .net and .lck files on my hard drive went away and I was able to open, edit, copy, sort, print just like old times!

Thanks again!
