I recently purchased a PIX 515 with 6.1 IOS and Version 1.0 of the PDM. I installed and configured for PDM and Ireceived a message stating that with IOS 6.1 I had to use PDM version 1.1. So, I downloaded and TFTP'd the new version of PDM into the PIX. Everything went fine - I saw the progress of the install but when it finished installing it said "This is not a valid PDM file" "This file was not installed" Anybody got a clue?

Make sure you are typing in the correct command:
copy tftp://TFTP_Server_IP_Address/pdmfile_name flash:pdm

Or you can use this and follow the prompts:
copy tftp flash:pdm

Yes - this part is not the problem - the PIX transfers the file from the TFTP server to itself, I get all of the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then it says "This is not a PDMfile" "The file was not installed"

CISSP2002,

Check to make sure you are transferring a "bin" file. You should probably go back and download the file again from CCO and make sure that the FTP client is using binary transfer.

When you transfer the PDM file to the PIX you should have used the "copy tftp flash:pdm " command. I think you did. The problem is tha file was wrong or corrupt.

If the PIX caught this in time and you get a good PDM bin file trying the transfer again should work. If it does not you will probably have to drop back to monitor mode, clear the flash file system and re-install both the PIX OS and PDM files.

When you do a "sh flash" there are 4 "bins". The last one is the PDM storage location.

Brian,

The file did end with a .bin extension, but I will try downloading a new file - Thanks!

This happened to us this morning. We reinstalled the IOS (6.1.1) again & then the PDM worked. We were of course using the right PDM download but it kept giving us the error you got. Hope this helps, Fred
