Hi,

I'm working on OS 9 using Director 8.5; I’ve created several CDs in the past using IMN PDF xtra and never had any problems. I have now created a new CD, which runs perfectly in my studio and several other machines I tested it on but when I send it to the client, they can't get it to view pdfs. I did initially include an old version of Acrobat reader on the cd so if people don't have Acrobat, they can still view the content. Unfortunately my client was finding when they ran the CD and viewed a PDF, the next time they tried to view a PDF in Internet Explorer, it wouldn't work. It was as if the machine was making the reader on the CD the default. My next solution was to just remove the reader on the CD as the client instructed, again in my environment, the CD ran perfectly however now when the client runs the CD, they get the following error:

"-1000 : Cannot find Acrobat Reader ActiveX control."

Any clues????

Hello Sanchez,

The -1000 error usually implies that Reader has not been installed, but only dragged to the workstation via a Network connection. Thus Reader will indeed work locally on that workstation but since that workstation's registry contains no official information about Reader, PDF Xtra will not function correctly. The solution is to just install the reader.

Hope this helps, but if not feel free to contact our FREE Support Department at: mailto:Support@IntegrationNewMedia.com

All the best with your latest project,
-Warren.

Makes sense, although my client is saying that she's now tested it in several different enviroments and she's still getting this error. One of the enviroments is a laptop so it's not calling on a network installed version of Acrobat – how can this be happening, is there anything I can do in Director to sort this?

Hi Sanchez,

It might be due to the fact that the present version of the Xtra is not compatible with Acrobat/Reader version 7...

Please contact our support department to receive the latest BETA and note that the release of the final version is imminent... mailto:Support@IntegrationNewMedia.com

Also, I am not at work every day of the week (I'm recovering from a hit-and-run accident) so please excuse the delay in my reply.

All the best,
-Warren./

Hi Warren,

Got an email from you with details of the new xtra. Just one question before I purchase a copy.

Will I have to relink/reimport all my pdfs in the current Director file using the new xtra?

This has been an ongoing project for a couple of years, it has about 150 pdfs in it, there are a few change each quater so I don't really want to recreate all this CD again. Is there a way to seamlessly link this new xtra within an existing director file?

Cheers,

Sanchez.

Hi Sanchez(2),

All that needs to be done is for you to open the PDF Xtra sprite (or sprites) once and then click OK - then save. This will update the Xtra within your project. You NEED NOT re-import your PDF documents :)

Good luck with your latest projects,
-Warren.
