I have several macros that save impromptu 6 reports to PDF format, however I have noticed that the file size is rather large... are there any option to make the published PDF size any smaller?

Steve,

The size variation has to do with embedded fonts. In IWR and with Acrobat PDFWriter & Distiller there are options to control whether fonts are embedded and which ones. I'll check on Imp 6 and see what I can tell about doing it there as well.

I had this problem too. I had to change a registry setting so that fonts were not embedded. It is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cognos\cer1\pdfServerLW\5.0\Fonts

change the Use Embedded setting to 1 from 0. You will have to close impromptu and open it again for changes to take effect.

Hope this helps

that worked wonders navshiv... from a 441kb file down to a 6.3kb file :)

great job navshiv!

In series 7 you can change this in the configuration manager. Services-PDF server- font embedding. There you can change the Use embedded font item 0=False 1= True

The reduced file size will do wonders in the upfront envirnoment.

Not only is is bigger because it insists on embedding fonts, but have you looked at what fonts it embeds. We have set up reports choosing "Arial" as the font (installed with Windows) and it embeds "Arial MT". Why?

Artroc,

When the embedded option is set to 1 the font is used displayed at Services-PDF server-Font Paths. Under the item 'Default font'you have probably 'Arial MT'.

You can change this option to another fonttype. Check also the Service-PDF Server-PDF Services for client tools-Default font and change there your fonttype too. Apply the configuration and it should work!

Good luck1

When we move to version 7 I'll try that. In the meanwhile any ideas on 6?
