This is a general question about pcl drivers.
Is there such a thing as just a pcl driver? I know there are pcl 5e and pcl 6 drivers but never heard of or could find just pcl on HP's web site.

Someone I work with swears that there is such a thing as just a pcl driver.

Thanks

No

PCL started off as a very primitive page control language, and evolved over the years through a number of iterations, from PCL1 through to PCL4 (HP LaserJet II), PCL5 (HP LaserJet III) to PCL5e (enhanced, LaserJet 4 onwards).

Most modern LaserJet devices support PCL5e, and also PCL6, but the latter is not an enhanced version of PCL5e, it is an entirely different language.

Well PCL1 probably wasn't called PCL1 at the time, since 1st editions of anything don't usually get a number. It would have become known as PCL1 retrospectively once PCL2 came out. So maybe PCL1 could be what they mean by "just" PCL? But it's something like 20 years old.
