How do you get SCO Open Server 5.0.4 to pick up a PCI jumperless parallel adapter. When the parallel adapter is installed by scoadmin all appears ok, but when SCO is rebooted it is not on the hardware configuration list.

Take a look at your bios settings.
Change the bios from Plug and play to manual.
Maunualy specifing the IRQ setting should fix the problem.

It sounds like a bios level problem.

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried that. I have an Intel D815EPEA motherboard and the bios only allows limited changes with the IRQ's. They can be set to "AUTO", "11", "10", or "9".
SCO will only allow IRQ of 9 or less. The SCO hardware will not pick up 9 or anything on "AUTO". Any suggestions?

I would check to see if the motherboard is certified hardware to run SCO. I would also call support@intel.

You should be able to maunally set IRQ needed. I had a simular problem with a 3Com NIC. I had to manaully change 3 other PCI devices to free the IRQ I needed.

I'll do a little digging and see if I can come up with anything else ?

Hi bowen, I'm looking for just such a card. What PCI parallel card are you using and have you got it working yet? Thanks.

i always use isa jumpered card. have never had luck with pci pnp.
what kind of printer is it? why not use it serially?

I need to run the old version of SCO Open Desktop 3.2 on hardware which is currently available, and you just can't find boards with multiple ISA slots any more. Even boards with a single ISA slot are becoming scarce. Add to that the fact that not all BIOS versions will even allow SCO to boot up, and you've got my problem.

So I need to find a PCI based parallel port card because I have a special parallel port driver that doesn't work with the parallel port that is built into the motherboard. Don't ask why -- I don't know and I am not able to re-write the driver. I don't even know if it will work with a PCI based parallel port card since I don't have one yet to try it out. That is why I asked if anyone knows of one that does at least work with the stardard parallel port driver in the old SCO.

I am having the same problem. The bios is set to no for plug and play OS. The IRQ is set for a pci/isa device. Is there anything else?

I haven't tried this on a PCI card, but on ISA I've broken the interrupt lead and put in a jumper to an adjacent card to be able to grab an interrupt I've needed. Makes it a real custom install but it worked to get me around some IRQ problems. Ed Fair
