pcanywhere timeout issues

ver 9.21, both computers, remote running WinME, host running Win2K, modem connection attempt gets error "connection timeout", almost imm. modems do dial and attempt to connect, seems like negotiation phase fails.. same results with "voice first" and "host calls remote". any ideas? Does the timeout happen when trying to connect to the remote machine? If so, find out the ip address of the remote machine and then ping it. This 'should' open the session.

Sounds like a good idea, unfortunatly this is a modem connection whe're trying to establish. we were able to make a connection only with the remote dialing the host, but not "voice first" which is what I Need to do... (with the host initiating the call in either event...)
