PC won't turn on

Hi,

A clients pc has stopped working. When you press the power button absolutely nothing happens. I have changed the PSU and still the result. I have also put the Main board into a different case with the same results. I am pretty sure the main board is dead, but just thought I would see if any one had any other ideas.

The main board is dead.

You might look to see if the cause was leaking capacitors:

This would actually be a "good" thing, as it is likely the processor, RAM and adapter boards are okay and can be used again.

Thanks for that, yes, just as I thought.

I have checked the capacitors and they seem fine. In fact no physical signs at all as to what might be wrong.

Oh well, the computer is a few years old so it may be easier for them to get a new one.

Silly question #1: Did you replace the power cable to the PSU?

Silly question #2: Did you make sure the wall outlet is good?

Silly question #3: Did you try momentarily shorting across the 'power' headers on the mainboard?

Silly question #4: Are you sure the 120-240 slider switch on the PSU is at the correct voltage?

Yes did all that as a matter of course, and absolutely nothing!!
