I have a new PC (3 weeks old). It worked great until I decided to install a new sound card (creative sound blaster 5.1).

Since installing the sound card I've been unable to start the PC. After depressing the On switch only the cooling fan begins and nothing else. The hard disk drive does not start, the computer screen remains blank.

After this I removed the sound card and checked all the hardware connections but the problem persists.

Any ideas on how I may be able to use my PC again?

Aye true. Also check for the underside of the motherboard touching the case, we had that once when we installed a new card. Probably woudln't explain your lack of video but perhaps sporadic start-ups.

As Rohmor and mistanapesis have said above if all else fails and you haven't got a clue as to the problem, remove every single device except your Motherboard, Graphics Card, Memory and CPU and reet the CMOS then try to boot.

samuraibeerman, you need to let us know if you had stripped the PC to its bare essentials (as per my seceond post) and what the results were.

mistanapesis' and Grenage's last posts will help you with resetting CMOS settings. I do hope you got a manual for the motherboard. If you do, follow its instructions.

From your last post, it is a possibility that some hardware components are of low quality. With this in mind, it might be best that you have the vendor spend the time and take the responsibility to check the system out under warranty conditions. (I hope there's warranty).

If it's a vendor that you do not have full confidence in, it may not be in your best interest to initially tell them about the attempted sound card install. Just tell them it stopped booting and you went inside to disconnect and reconnect cables.

Then wait and see what their diagnosis is and take it from there.

Good luck.
