Hi Guys..and or Gals..

I am not a super-expert..but I do sell PCs at a Sony store here in PA. I bought my PCVRS510 about 9 months ago..and havent had any problems until the other day, when I shut it off to go to bed..then woke up in the morning..and was not getting a video signal at all from my PC. It would seem like it was booting up..no beeps at all..both fans were running and no sound to my speakers either. I dont know what this could be as I am not an expert..I assume it is my motherboard as opposed to my video card.

Specs- Intel P4- 2.80 GHz , 2-256Mb sticks of DDR SDRAM , Intel 865GV chipset..and the video card is integrated on the MOBO.

As I am not a technical wiz..heck I dont even know what the BIOS is (can research that)..but would like a couple of opinions before I shell out an arm and a leg for a tech to fix it.

Thanks all,
Jimb

9 months old...is it still under warranty? can get a cheap power supply tester from compusa, or best buy...to rule that out...If you have an agp, pci-e video card, try reseating them, also reseat the dimms, and cables....remove the ide cables and power connectors from the drives, after each step try to power on and see if it starts up. If still no joy, borrow a video card from a freind or relative and see if that will give you video, all of these steps fail, seek out a tech to test the system board and cpu.

Surely it's still under warranty?

Sounds like the PSU hope it ain't damaged anything else.

Try reseating power connectors and resetting the cmos (pull out power lead for 30seconds)

I should have mentioned before..it is refurbished...as I work at an outlet store in PA..it only came with a 90 day warranty..and dumb ol me.not a fan of extended warranties..did not purchase one.

I also went to wal-mart and bought a video card..nvidia I think..and tried to install it..I physically installed it properly..but no luck when powering up..I will try what you have recommended here..but I called a tech.. he said 40 bucks for diagnostics alone..and also mentioned that VAIOs have a knack for their motherboards going out..so I dont know..but thanks for the response so far.

Well I personally can confirm a problem with a friends VAIO motherboard (one day both the DVDRW and DVD disapeared) tried new drives/IDE cable and a clean install to no avail
Don't know if this is a common occurance but this was also a P4 2.8 although not sure of the exact model.

Just want to send a note of thanks to those who tried to help with my pc issue. I finally broke down and took it to a local tech..who isnt going to make me pay and arm and a leg..just a kneecap.. but he did confirm that it was the motherboard and that Sony Vaios are notorious for this problem.

Just want to say thanks again.
