I have Pentium Dual Core with Windows XP. For the last some days when i shutdown it restarts at its own. then i have to switch the power off to keep it off.

Is this problem due to the cabinet button defect or it is some OS problem? Can someone provide me the solution?

Thanks,

By default, XP executes an automatic restart in the event of a system failure. Therefore, more or less anything compromising the operating system during the shutdown process could force this reboot. Disabling the restart on system failure feature may permit the exact cause to be isolated: Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under Startup & Recovery, click Settings. Under System Failure, uncheck the box in front of System reboot.

Hopefully on the next shutdown you will get a BSOD and be on the way to sorting the issue out.

Just a wild guess - I presume when you get the shut down window, the drop-down list is set to "Shut down" and not "Restart"? The last option you set it to is the default, and stays that way until you change it.

Wake on Lan were turned off and it clicked.

Thanks to all for their support.
