Hello,

I have a P4 2.6ghz 800fsb HT on a Biostar P4vtb MB
with 512 Mg 400mhz DDR ram installed. For video, I
have a Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis 256mb DDR AGP 8x
video card. This system has run fine for almost a year
and I have another identical system except I run a AIW 9600
in the other machine direct from ATI.

My problem is this computer frequently reboots itself
for no apparent reason. It always says error caused by
a device driver. To date I have tried and/or tested the
following:
1) Rebuild the machine at least 5 times to clear up
any errors or conflicts- nothing
2) Tried from the most current drivers and 3 other
previous versions from ATI
3) Sent back the MB and Processor - Both tested fine
4) Installed the power supply in my other machine and
it is still running fine after 3 weeks ( I am typing
on it)
5) Ran memory burn in tests as well as error checking
on the current memory- all good
6) Swapped out other memory with the current and it
still rebooted
7) Flashed the bios/ set defaults - changed settings
and nothing - still reboots
8) Took the whole thing apart numerous times and
reseated everything. - Reboots
9) Reseated the CPU with new thermal grease - CPU temp
is fine 33 degrees celcius.

So with that said it sits on my work beach running
fine right now. I could open 10 things and it would be
fine. Play a game, run a cpu burn in program, write
email, etc. Then all of a sudden 10 min or 3 hours
later it reboots. Never at the same time interval.
Sometimes it just reboots by itself when I am doing
nothing?

My question to you is there any known issues with
Radeon and biostar MB that could case this or anything
else that I can try to solve this problem? Is there
software that would test this card for errors? My AIW
radeon in the other identical machine has been fine
with no problems.

Any help on this issue would be great.

Thanks a lot,
zilla

NOTE: Oh to add on to the list of components. I have an awsome raidmax case with 420w power supply in it (similar to alien case). This is the same case I have build about 4 other computers for using very similar components and none have given me this problem

The error below is what I am getting. I had about 5 IE windows open, every office product, unreal tournament 2003 running in demo mode, CPU Burn in utilities and Windows media player playing an online radio station full screen and everything was zipping right along for over 45min to an hour. (This computer is a beast BTW). The only time it reset was when I went from full screen on the media player to regular. The PC immediately rebooted. I am going to leave just the media player streaming full screen and the CPU burn in utility running tonight when I got to bed and see if it crashes.

Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Error when computer boots back up is as follows:

Just a note, there is an issue with the onboard Real-Tek advance audio controller and the default drivers. When used in conjunction w/ an ATI graphics card, they can cause reboots. If you have a real-tek onboard audio controler make sure you update your those drivers and see if that doesn't help.

maybe you should try changing your video card.. rickguy is right... sometimes ati graphics card cause the reboots.. b4 i have the same problem but after changing my video card is when okay

Thanks for you help guys I will try out a few of your ideas and let you know how they turn out. This PC has given me a headache and ulcers every since this started happening:( I appreciate all of the support...

THanks for all the advise. I did look in the driver files for unsigned drivers and there was only one: ntvdmd.dll and I did some searching and microsoft explains this file is fine no matter what version.

Also, there is no Real-tek advance audio controller on this board that I can see plus I have the same board in the system I am running right now with a AIW 9600 and I have never had a problem like this.

Soooooo...

I just got through swapping video cards on this machine. I put a AIW 9600 128mb in there and it ran fine for over an hour under all conditions. I then placed the other card 9600 SE 256mb and it still reboots. So now I am faced with is the card bad or is it drawing to much current/ voltage from the powersupply to keep up? Is there anyway to monitor the voltage on this system. On a side note this machine worked for close to a year with this card in it and only did it start to have problems now. Any ideas? The power supply is a raidmax 420w supply. I believe the problems started when the driver was upgraded a few months ago as well as the bios was flashed?

Thanks, Trent
