PC Never Shutdown! Reboots Everytime..... 1

Hi,
I have intel P4 1.6 GHZ, 512 MB DDR, Gigabyte 845 GV-RZ series motherboard, and Windows XP pro sp2 Installed.

Everytime I shutdown my PC, it reboots again. It never shuts down. I have to manually switch it off.
What is the problem, what should I do to get rid of it.

Either right-click 'My Computer' and select Properties or go to Control Panel and select System. Select the Advanced tab and click Settings under the 'Startup and Recovery' section. Under 'System failure' uncheck Automatically restart. You may now see an error message when you start up or shutdown your computer indicating why it was doing this. Have you recently installed any new drivers or software?

Actually I didnt installed any of the new devices, neither I have removed any installed program.

Actually I have installed OS(win XP pro sp2) just 15 days back and since then I am facing this problem.I'll check the solution and reply you back.

Sorry Friend...Actually I have purchase a new 160GB 7200RPM Seagate HDD and connected it to my earlier config(cause my earlier 40 GB HDD had stolen) and Installed new OS on that.

And since then facing this problem.


I am really sorry to say but your solution is not working.

If you have any other solution please do tell me.

Do you have any 'Wake on ....' events set in the BIOS?

Will it hibernate?

Clutching at straws here!

Run an error check on the drive & select 'scan for bad sectors'

Try restting the BIOS back to defaults, first noting any special settings.

stduc (Programmer) As per your advice I checked that does it hibernates...Yes it does! It turns off.

And yes their are 16 KB of hdd on C drive in Bad Sector.But the restart prob is from day 1 on which i've connected new hdd.

and I have also setted BIOS on default setting by resetting the jumpper.

but still prob is there.

Did you double check "wake on event...." BIOS settings
