We have a bunch of computers with "underscore" ("_") in the name. I would like to know if anybody expirienced any problem with such computer names and active directory?

Thanks.

AD won't be a problem - DNS will. A underscore isn't an legal character in RFC 952 so you may get problems. Replace them with -

Ash.

Yes, but MS DNS can handle extended character set. We are using it now. I am not sure about AD-integrated DNS.
Renaming is easy - but what about 200+ PCs, most of them w2k and NT.

Ashley's right. It's not "legal", nor is it considered good form. HOWEVER, (and I hate to say this...)it will work, so you don't HAVE TO rename them right away. But I'd definitely try to do it over time.

It might cause problems as well with some machines. I encountered this problem with the domain I work with. AD kept rejecting one of the computer names until I renamed it. Just a thought.
