Ok heere is the deal. I have a client with a gateway P4 E-series running 2000. The client a couple of times a day will lose internet. The pc is getting its connection thru a 3com voip phone. At the same time the pc loses connection the phone goes down. There is a switch in this office with about 6 computers that connect to it. Hers is the only one connected thru a phone. When she loses connection no other computers lose connection. To get the internet back we just unplug the cable from the phone and put it right back in. The phone resets itself and all is good. We have tried new phone, tested cable from switch to phone, changed ports on switch, changed cable from jack to phone and phone to pc. The only thing we have not changed is the NIC in the pc, but why would the NIC make the phone not have internet. These phones are POE and the power does not go off the phone.
Any help would begreatly appreciated.

Ive seen voip phones go bad but the nic still works so the pc still gets connectivity.
Try the pc at someone elses phone or if easier, move somone elses phone to that desk. I know phones been replaced but need to rule out anything else.

The switch in the closet that provides the power for your POE phone might also be having a problem. Perhaps your telecom folks can take a look at the port level to see if there are any errors cropping up on the line that feeds the phone itself.

Otherwise, I agree with Ben - try a different NIC to see if that helps. You might want to check the logs as well.

Good luck,

Since my last post it has only gone down once.
I did not state this in my original post but I did check the Event viewer on the pc and nothing that would pertain to a cause was in there. There were a few that would be the result of losing connection. Thanks for all the replies.
