I have USAS PC4e mb. running XP PRO. New Hard drive. 1mb memory. MB 4 yrs old.

Old XP was 4 yrs old and cranky. Started locking up.

After fresh install, runs much better but still occasionally locks up. Have to cold - reboot.

Internal temps within spec.

What are the major issues that might cause it?

Off-hand, no. I don't know the wattage. And I re-installed the old one as a slave. Neither have exhibited any problems. The voltages are normal. I'll have to check further.

Thanks for all the good info.

If you've got Adobe Download Mangager in msconfig>startup, uncheck it. It was causing temporary lockups in my system.

Yeah, I noticed that too. When I dumped it. my PC behaved better.

Found it in Adobe Photoshop, renamed it xex.

I also updated my video drivers. That made a huge improvement to my problem.

The app had gotten to running herky-jerky but doing that made it run smooth.

Better still, my CPU is now bouncing around 50 - 80% now when I run the app.

Thanks for the tips.

Good point from freestone. Inspect the caps near the CPU. If they show leakage on the board or are expanded on the tops they may be the problem.
