Hi Everyone,

It's pretty well documented that PC + digital port = blown port/module and it's pretty expensive to get the smoke back inside the unit.

Does anyone know the reason why? Poor build quality seems to be the front runner, but on a technical level, what actually causes it?

Cheers!

Ok. Telephony goes down the centre pins- pins 4/5 at 48 at +/-48V DC

You're pushing powered data traffic back down pins 1/2 and 3/6. The digital extension transformer is not made to receive power on these pins. Short Circuits it like an EMP bomb.
Maybe they could make sockets that only have pins 4/5 like a 605 plug. But meh- just don't do it. I've never done it.
That's what your F Set is for. [smile]

The Treasure Fleet is in the harbor!

That's exactly what I needed!

Cracking way to keep making money though. Haha

Cheers

Gigabit Ethernet interfaces don't even use 1/2 and 3/6. So the short circuit can come in over 4/5 though.

Gigabit uses all 4 pairs.

That's what I wanted to say. Sorry for not getting the right words to describe it ;-)
