I have a PC with K7T266 Pro2 (MS-6380 v2.X) Motherboard, running an Athlon XP 1900 with 630MB Ram, 300w PSU with Windows 2000.

At the moment when you choose to shutdown the PC, it automatically reboots after the shutdown completes as though it was a restart instead. Even pressing the power button on the case restarts it rather than switching it off. The motherboard connectors are in and attached to the correct jumpers on the board and I have checked all the BIOS options and power options in 2k, but cannot find anything that would be causing this.

Any thoughts?

First, try shutting down after removing the modem. Some of the cheaper PCtel modems can cause this issue (I usually only see it in Emachines, though.) Second, go into bios and disable ALL power management options and set anything that doesn't have a disable option to Always On. Try again.
If that doesn't help, lastly, I'd consider trying another ps and motherboard, one at a time to find out which is causing the problem. One of them will be the problem if the software settings are not. Hopefully, it'll be a bios setting. Good Luck. hg

Check the BIOS. Look for the power saver options etc. There should be an option for the ATX Soft Power setting. If the soft power setting is set correctly the computer will power down upon a Shutdown in windows. However you have to hold the power button in for 4 seconds to shut it down manually. Pulled the modem out and that made no difference, so I've left it out anyway as its not needed.
Put all of the power management options off and Windows failed to load. So I sat and played with all the options and eventually the power button started to play correctly and would switch off the pc when pressed, although there is no Soft power setting on this motherboard.

After a little bit more I managed to get it to power off correctly. Seems to have been tied to the ACPI option the BIOS has, because the power off worked after I changed this option a couple of times.

Cheers for the help.

For some chipsets/motherboards there is an AMD MINIPORT/ACPI patch. Although I think this has more to do with the AGP port and some of the hybernation issues in Win ME. When I installed it on my FIC AD11 it installed a PCI to Host controller and did something else. Sometimes Windows has trouble seeing all of the built in hardware on these newer motherboards.

I have had all kinds of video and power-setting problems with my FIC AD11 motherboard. Most of the reviews I read claimed the FIC AD11 was stable, but I havent seen that. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
