i have a pc that goes blank before the login stage. it only happens every now and again. the pc also has the habbit of hanging but i am under the impression that the mothermoard is correctly mounted on the metalbox and causes the screencard to slip out of its bus/slot. why it is going blank during bootup is my major concern

The first thing I would ask is at exactly what point in the log-in does it go blank? Does the monitor go black before or after the boot process - for instance, before the blue screen or after the boot.ini screen? Also, can you hear the machine continuing to boot after the screen goes blank. Thanks,

it happens after the blue screen and i dont hear the machine boot anymore and the monitor goes blank at that stage. i dont think the problem is with NT not loading but rather a hardware problem, or am i wrong?

Since this is an intermittent problem, it definitely sounds like hardware failing. Have you run any diagnostics?
