Does anyone have any experience providing customer owned and operated pay telephones at public facilities? How does such a unit interface with calling and/or credit cards? Who makes the equipment we will need?

Is it worth it to bother at all? Line costs are not a concern in this situation.

DORO make and sell Payphones
They use meter pulses provided by the Telco

Trotski, I am familiar with meter pulses in Europe, are they used in North America also (just for payphones)?

Mind like a Steel trap - Once used forever clamped shut.

I have no idea about Nth America, Australia uses the Euro/British standards

DORO payphones have an inbuilt dial/charging table and don't require meterpulses but need a reversal on answer if I remember correctly

I installed CO-payphones about 15 years ago, and they had all that worked out some how. There was no extra hardware or programming that I can remember. I'd give you the name, but they are long out of business, and we got the phones from Amway.
