Pattern fill inside shape/text? Is this possible?

Is there a way to "tile" fill inside a shape in InDesign? (with a pattern)

In Publisher, you can do that (even in Word inside a shape). I know how to take a huge pattern and put it inside words or a shape, but is there a way to tile/repeat it?

To my knowledge, you'll need a third-party plugin, such as David Blatner's PatternMaker.

Have you tried Step and Repeat? If you take your basic pattern and use S&R to repeat it horizontally and vertically, you might then be able to use that pattern to fill your shape.
