Hi

I was wondering if quotas take effect when you copy and paste a folder into the drive.

I am copying and pasting information from one file server to another. The location to which i am pasting them is a quotad drive. Will the quota be effective?

Thanks

Quotas do not follow a file from one server to another. Pasting a file into a folder is the same as a saveAs, so if the destination drive has quotas enabled then the new files will count against the quota.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Thanks for that.

One thing I did wonder was if cutting and pasting and copying and pasting had the same effect.

My problem is that when I goto the quota tab on the drive then click on the quota entries button then the people that I have moved onto the drive aren't there. This makes me think that there is a problem :/

If YOU move the data while logged in as the admin then the files are owned by Administrator and not the user. You need to have the users copy the files.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Thanks, that explains a lot. I will call the users tomorrow to ask them to try and take ownership of the folders and take it from there.

yes that what the quatr is used for to keep track of space on that drive if you copy and paste information too it your using space on that drive
