i setup a dual boot Win2k-WinMe.
I'm on a simple 5 station p-to-p LAN.
When I try to access resorces on Win2k server I am prompted for a password. None of the passwords I have provided work. Win2k server can access all other (Win98) machines.
When I try to Dial-in to Win2k I'm prompted for a password which is different than the User password. Win2k seems to have made up it's own password and will not let me change it. Helup?

Go to the W2K machine giving the problem and create a user matching the user wanting access. You can then right click on the created user and set password. This should now allow access to the shares.

If it is a simple network and security is not a big issue then enable the GUEST account. This will allow ANYONE on your network to access the resources. James Collins

For others that may experience this...

Opening the Guest account solved access to Win2k Server on the lan.

For dialup,
i created a new user with no password.

in Network & Dialup Connections I added the user.
once again Win2k filled in a password. I changed it, exit and reboot. I took another look but Win2k insists on keeping this password.

I wouldn't even care if I had a way to find out what it is.

On dial up does the Admin password work? James Collins

Same thing in Inoming Connection with Admin or any other account I activate. Even if I create a new user at Dialup Connections. When I check the properties for the user the password has been changed to a 15 character password. But, in all other areas the passwords for these users remain as they were originally set.
Ex.: If I had a user named Test and his pass was Test I can logon at the site. If I dial from another location and logon as Test the password will never work. I did check "Allow Access" in the dialin tab for User, Properties, in Computer management.

Thank you,
Dave

i have the same case, When I try to Dial-in to Win2k I'm prompted for:
Resource: \\servername\IPC$
Password:
i shared many drives in this machine

W2K on a dial up appends digits. This is an option in the network area properties of the connection and there is an append to DNS. I am not on W2K at the moment or I would give the exact wording.
