Someone at our company apparently botched the password in the PBX. I am able to connect, but not able to get into password level 7, so I can't set anything. I used MatWorx to backup the system after the fact (of course :( ).

From what I've heard, the only way to override the password is to completely reset the phone system. If we do this, and use the backup to restore it, will that also bring back the screwed up password?

Or is there another way?

We have a 2000IPS (IVS Retro)

A lot of times the password is not encrypted so that you can see it just by going to the E?? command. (Sorry I did not pull out my manual, but will momentarily and post back). However, if you can not see the password you can take the system offline and change the command to enable password protection (once again I'll post these commands shortly). In order to take the system offline simply turn the blue dial on the processor to 6. THIS TAKES THE SYSTEM DOWN so do this after hours. Off the top of my head both of these commands are in E9, but I'll check for you :). Once this is done simply put the system back online (dial on 0) and reset. Wallah, NO password required.

OK, here are the commands

Try this first, because you may be able to see the password in clear text.
E9 + DE + 7 + DE

If you can't see the password using this command, take the system offline as I mentioned, and use this command.

E9 + DE + 9 + DE + 1 EXE

If I go into CAT mode, and type E9 which sets the password, and then type 7 for the password level, I get *DATA ERROR*. Will this not appear when I switch the processor dial to 6?

I'll try the second E9 command suggestion this evening and report back.

Okay, I turned the switch to 6, but it took all the phones out, and I was unable to connect in CAT mode. Also I was unable to get in via the network interface on MatWorx. Do I need a direct serial connection to the PBX on MatWorx to get this to work?

Sorry about that sackeri!!

I completely forgot about having to use MAT. Yes, you will need a serial connection to make this happen. I am unsure as I have never really worked on an IVS retrofit which serial port you need to use. On the original IVS there was a DB25 on the backplane of the cabinet for programming. On the new retrofit processor I am sure it provides for serial ports on the front of the card, so you may need a special serial cable from NEC to make this connection. If I get time tonight I'll look into this in the retrofit manual.

Just out of interest all of the serial ports work on a retrofit including the backplane one. It just duplicates port 0.

No problem. Unfortunately I just tried to connect to the DB25 on the backpane, but wasn't able to. I had a regular null-modem cable, and my baud rate was set to 9600 on COM1, but MatWorx just kept saying it couldn't connect. The PBX doesn't have to be in a special mode does it? Right now it's on 0. I wanted to try it at 0 first because putting it in mode 6 hangs my DMR down the street and I had to physically run over and reset it (that was fun ;P).

It could be my laptop COM port. I'll have to test it tomorrow though, it's getting late. Thanks for your help so far btw. :)

I seem to remember that when offline in this way the baud rate automatically gets set slower. I can't remember if it is 1200 or 2400

Do your EC6 command then place the sense wheel on a 3, reset the phone system. Connect to the phone system by hooking your MAT to the bottom com-port on the front of the CPU. Set your baud rate to 9600, you should be able to connect and clear your password then.

SW3 on the MP set to a 2 will follow the baud rate set in CM 4008. SW3 set to a 3 is fixed 9600.
Never tried it through the backplane of an older PIM.

Well, after tearing through all my drawers in my office trying to cobble together a couple straight-through serial cables (the reason I couldn't connect to the PBX was because I was using a modem cable) I was able to successfully connect!

I had to put the CPU on 3 instead of 6 because for some reason I couldn't get it to connect in MatWorx. But lo and behold it worked!!! I set E9->9->1, E9->8->0, reset the password, saved it with EC6, and was able to log in successfully back in mode 0.

All of you guys really, really ROCK!!! :-D Seriously, you're my superheroes for this one! I was in a mild panic all week. Time for some well-earned rest. Thanks again...

SW3 Sense wheel settings 5 through 8 are used for loading software to the MP ONLY. Ths is why you had to use 2 or 3.
Setting 4 is for Debub mode when running various trace options and settings 1, 9, A, D, E, and F are not used.
I think we all now what the B and C settings do. Especially if you've ever spoken to Howard in the Nth American NTAC.
