I enabled Remote Desktop on my desktop machine and established a password for my user account. I was then able to log on from my notebook from a remote location.
When I would return to my desktop the logon window was waiting for me where upon I would enter the password and go.

I now have to log on with my PW when I start windows in the morning now but the thing is, this requirement only started about a week after I enabled Remote Desktop.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks

Does your Desktop connect to a Domain and receive GPO from it?

Maybe it is just one of those strange happenings that there is no ready explanation for?

Thanks Linny

No, I am not part of a domain. Actually, I have never tried to access it outside of my own network but that is next on the list

Are you asking how to have the system automatatically log you on (including password) when you start it up?

If so... Start, Run, control userpasswords2, OK
select your username in the bottom half, remove the check from 'users must enter a username....', click OK, & add your password when prompted.

Have a look at my thread 779-1410176. My logon problems started with my router that affected the following files RTLGina2.dll and MSGINA.DLL if you follow the links in the thread they might help solve your problem.

thread 779-1410176 is missing, so you might have to supply the links manually, if you still have them.

The machine was overdue for a reinstall so I bit the bullet and did it yesterday. When I set it up I followed smah's suggestion and it is working as it should not. I will let you know if it changes.

Thanks gents for the assist.

Whenever this has happened to a system I've been working on, I've found that a recent Win update has added a user, NETAPI or something like that (sorry to be vague - just got back after a long nite out.)

Back when the M$ net framework (or whatever it's called) was in its earliest form, 1.0 or so - all that was necessary was to add the 1.1 Service pack for the logon problem to go away.

'Course, the thing's got up to version 3 now, so I'm not sure if just wacking in 3 will fix it. Personally, I'd try the 1.1 Service pack and see what happens.

Also, I seem to recall that you can just delete the new (net whatever) user.

Good luck.
