Greetings, I have a color printer that is setup on our network running Windows 2000 Server. the PCs connected to it are running Windows XP. Is there a way to password protect the printer so that either 1) only certain users can print to it or 2) only certain users can print color while others can print only B&W? Thanks in advance

Make the printer shared from the server, then assign only those users to the share (remove "Everyone" from the share, add "Bill" and "Jane".) Now only those people can use the printer.

If you want others to still print in B&W, make a SECOND share of the same printer on the server, configuring that driver for B&W only. You can leave this share "Everyone."

A better and more easily managed method would be to create a group/s that is allowed access to the printer i.e <printer name> Colour and <printer name> BlackWhite. Add and remove users to the groups as required.
