Hi guys,

My challenge is pretty simple. We need to restrict access to a certain download -- stop people who shouldn't be from downloading that file.

We have a very-locked down IIS, so I require a very elementary approach (we're part of a much larger group who provide us only the most basic access to the server).

If there were something similar to .htaccess for ASP, that'd be a neat solution.

May I beg your thoughts on this topic? My expertise lies in the Unix realm and I find myself caught embarassingly short on this simple chore.

Thank you. NY

PS: I was able to gin up a PASSWORD PROTECTED PAGE with no difficulties...I am trying to password protect a directory or a single file so that users don't just get in my password protected page get the path of the file and email it to their buds! Thanks again.

if you had access to the server you could install troxo IIS apassword, works just like .htaccess and its free...

I suggest you do a search of this forum's threads, there have been many discussions about this topic.

Thanks weblead: that's exactly what I did before I posted.

I have not found a thread where the developer was constrained by not having access to full-featured IIS, and I wanted to brainstorm with my gifted colleagues at TT.
