We have been starting to set up SBS STD 2003 at our workplace and have encountered an issue with companyweb. We are new to SBS 2003, with little to no experience with it, but have been able to do everything we need, as in add users and set up accounts for these users with email. Although another thread seems to have addressed this issue of a username and password prompt when is accessed from a client computer, the "solutions" have not worked. We have tried adding companyweb to safe intranet sites, the main resolution that has been posted. The prompt screen lasts for one cancel click, in that after clicking cancel once, the prompt goes away, at least for the homepage. Does anyone have any possible fixes for this problem?

Thanks for the support.

well since you didnt reference the threads or what you have tried to do to resolve the issue i will throw this out as a suggestion. i just looked at an SBS server i just setup. Taking for granted that the computer and user is a member of the domain have you tried un-ticking "integrated Windows authentication" so that only "Enable anonymous access" is being used? This would be located in the Default Web Site Properties under the Directory Security tab in Authentication and access control.

When I untick integrated and leave just anonymous, it comes up with 2 Inheritance Override windows prompting for a selection of nodes and "auth flags". I select all and apply, and the prompt still comes up at companyweb on a client computer. Maybe I only select certain nodes and "auth flags"?

Guess i should have asked what web site you are accessing. By default it creates a "companyweb", im guessing you are trying to access that one. Look at the authentication method for that site. On the one im looking at amonymous access isnt enabled but integrated authentication is, try enabling the anonymous and disable intregrated, see if that fixes ya up.

Well its starting to look like an NTFS issue to me, try this. Right click on companyweb select permissions, add the IUSR_Yourservername, this is the same user listed under the directory security tab for anonymous access. See if that does anything.

That did not seem to do anything, the username password prompt still comes up when trying to access companyweb from a client computer.

Hi princetonderm,

What happens if you enter a domain admin username and password at the prompt?

(using windows authentication)

Remember- It's nice to be important,
but it's important to be nice :)

If a domain admin username is entered, access to companyweb is granted, however, complete access is granted, we don't want the users to have full modification rights.

I managed to resolve this issue thanks to the help from Danny28 by reinstalling companyweb. The instructions on how to do this can be found in my thread in the Small Business Server 2003 discussion or from microsoft at
